Forthcoming concert featuring Goldsmiths/EMS alumni John Lely.
A new experimental music series called 840.
7:30pm on Saturday 31 January 2015 at St James’ Church, Islington, N1 8PF.
The concert features The Manon Quartet, winners of the 2014 Cavatina Intercollegiate String Quartet Competition, presenting brand new commissions from Louis d'Heudieres, Matthew Lee Knowles, Neil Luck, Alex Nikiporenko, myself and Tristan Rhys Williams. The centrepiece of the concert is provided by the piece Doubles (2012) by John Lely (Goldsmiths Alumni).

Miniaturised Concertos' is a series of experimental double piano concertos, exploring the roles of the traditional double piano concerto, working with electroacoustics and film, chamber ensemble, extended techniques and duo, to create large scale effects from small forces. Commissions from Philip Cashian, Colin Riley, Katharine Norman, Naomi Pinnock, Andrew Poppy and electronics by technologist-composers, Peiman Khosravi and James Waterworth.

Focusing on live electronic and multi-channel/stereo performances by students working in the EMS.
The Stanley Glasser Electronic Music Studios were established in 1968 by composer, instrument maker and musicologist Hugh Davies and comprise a suite of working areas for undergraduate & postgraduate students wishing to explore the creative potential of studio equipment & audio software in relation to composition, live electronics, interactive performance, sound-art, acoustic ecology and research.
Free admission, all welcome.
Cost: free
The EMS supports the Interlace concert series, the Unit for Sound Practice Research (SPR), and is a member of the Live Algorithms for Music research network.
